About Us

Who We Are

The West Jersey Reading Council is a dynamic organization committed to the development and support of literacy initiatives.

Our Mission

To promote literacy in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem counties through professional development, active membership, partnership with ILA and NJLA, and dissemination of pertinent research and practices.

What We offer members

  • Professional development events, including certification of PD hours as approved by the NJ Department of Education and the Professional Teaching Standards Board
  • Fall and spring conferences highlighting the latest in best practices and current literacy research
  • Networking events

Scholarships and Awards

  • Annual scholarships to aspiring teachers in the developing world
  • Margaret A. Cagney Scholarship for graduate study
  • Mary Cudemo-Schurig Literacy Award for community literacy efforts
  • Celebrate Literacy Award sponsored by ILA for community literacy efforts

Literacy Initiatives

  • Projects reaching out to local and international communities through our literacy initiatives
